CELEBR ATING INVICTUS ON A TRIP TO CANADA
GET COSY AS HARRY OPENS UP ABOUT HIS FATHER’S ILLNESS
As he hit the ski slopes in Canada last week, the Duke of Sussex opened up about his hopes that the King’s cancer diagnosis will help him rebuild their relationship and added: “I love my family.”
Prince Harry, 39, was visiting Vancouver and Whistler to raise awareness of next year’s Invictus Games when he spoke for the first time about his father’s illness and said he plans to return to the UK to see his family “as much as I can”.
In a far-reaching TV interview with Good Morning America,, the Duke agreed His Majesty’s illness could have a “unifying effect”, saying: “Throughout all these families, I see it on a dayto-day basis, the strength of the family unit coming together. I think any illness, any sickness brings families together.”
He added he had “jumped on a plane” back to the UK as soon as his father phoned him with his cancer news. “I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that.”
However, he refused to be drawn on the exact nature of His Majesty’s illness, saying firmly: “That stays between me and him.”
He continued: “I have my own family, as we all do. So my family and my life in California is as it is. I’ve got other trips planned that would take me through or back to the UK, so I’ll stop and see my family as much as I can.”
DADDY’S DELIGHT
Of his joy at being a father to Prince Archie, four, and Princess Lilibet, two, he said: “The kids are doing great. The kids are growing up like all kids do – incredibly fast. They’ve got an incredible sense of humour and make us laugh and keep us grounded every single day… I’m just very grateful to be a dad.”
There was also talk about him becoming a US citizen, with the Duke saying it “has crossed my mind”.
