What’s the story? This appears to be the perfect mix of style and technical performance: it’s minimalist in design but looks serious, especially in this dark olive green. Waterproof, windproof and breathable, it has down filling complemented by an additional synthetic fibre inside and polyamide Texapore Pro Stretch Crinkle face fabric. The adjustable hood lets you lock in warmth and the strong zips let you shed it.

Is it any good? Jack’s excellent effort is adventure-ready, as you’d expect for something at this price, but if you have to take it into civilisation it looks smart too. It does feel a little heavy, though, clocking in at 885g – you certainly won’t want to be carrying this one around if the weather gets unexpectedly non-wintry. But it’s a solid all-round buy.

Fjallraven Expedition Down Lite Jacket

What’s the story? This is an exact replica of the jacket from Fjallraven’s 1974 Expedition Series, albeit with 35% less filling – because you’re going to the Yorkshire Dales, not the actual Arctic. It has recycled synthetic padding on the shoulders, while both the outer and lining fabrics are made from recycled polyamide. Yes, it’s expensive, but it will last you.
