The race is on at the male-pro-only Ironman Italy Emilia Romagna. Scot elite David McNamee, who’s been struggling with nerve damage from an old injury this year, had a late-season start to finish second behind Belgium’s Stenn Goetstouwers, whose 7:42:29 winning time was also a course record.

At the World Triathlon Grand Final in Pontevedra, Spain, Team GB once again demonstrated the depth of talent in the women’s squad with sublime performances from eventual world champ Beth Potter (see p20) and rising star Kate Waugh, who took her first elite podium.

CHALLENGE FAMILY

In his first triathlon race appearance since May, Alistair Brownlee battled with Dutch pro Youri Keulen throughout Challenge Barcelona on 8 October. But with limited run training having had ankle surgery in July, the two-time Olympic champ was pleased to come away with silver.
