WHY DID YOUR CLIENTS MOVE TO THIS AREA?

Our clients, Shawn and Rupa Badlani, were living in a high-rise in San Francisco when they bought a plot of land in 2017. It’s in a beautiful community surrounded by rolling hills and was ideal for their growing family, which now includes Arjun, seven, Jay, six and baby Laila.

WHAT WAS THEIR DESIGN BRIEF?

They had a clear vision of their dream family home. It had to have a very modern style with lots of jewel-tone pops of colour throughout, as a reflection of their Indian culture.

WHAT WERE THE MAIN PRIORITIES?

The couple didn’t want any rooms that they wouldn’t use. It was really important for them to have the space they needed, but not to create space just to have it. This home is a place for all of their family and friends, and while they wanted it to be beautiful, they also wanted it to be practical.

WHICH SPACE WAS MOST IMPORTANT TO THE HOMEOWNERS?

The main living, dining and kitchen area. They are always on the go and this space is the centre of most of their activities and also where they reconnect. It’s where they do all their entertaining, too.
