SITTING ROOM FOCUS

A joyful scheme by interior design studio Yellow London is the perfect canvas for the owners’ art and antiques collections

The clients, keen art collectors, asked Yellow London to help with their renovation. ‘The owners came to us to help bring a timeless and modern layered scheme to their house, that would complement their artwork,’ says Cath Beckett of Yellow London.

1BALANCE THE SCHEME

A symmetrical scheme was created looking towards the French doors on the front elevation with mirrored tables on either side of the red sofa and matching yellow leather chairs opposite. Fake dress blinds were installed to help warm the room. ‘The clients had a statue that they wanted to display and so we had a bespoke walnut plinth made to fit perfectly between the doors,’ says Cath.

2CHOOSE COLOUR AND PATTERN

The boldly patterned rug was the first purchase for the room and the starting point for the colour scheme. ‘We chose to have strong coloured furniture to pop against the neutral walls,’ says Cath. ‘All the upholstery items are quite square, which the clients liked, and they also reflect the motif in the rug.’ The scheme was layered with various different colours, textures and patterns to create an exciting and interesting room.
