Calling in the experts was the recipe for success in getting a cook space that is both functional and fabulous

The owners of this house employed a two-pronged approach to ensure they achieved the cook space of their dreams – commissioning a bespoke kitchen specialist to make sure it worked hard and an interior designer to ace a look that was bold, beautiful and everything they wanted.

1 A SMART APPROACH

The client enjoys cooking and entertaining and envisioned a bright, bold kitchen with ample worktop space that seamlessly flowed into the open-plan dining and living area. ‘She wanted a finished design that would make her smile each time she walked into it,’ says Selena. ‘So careful consideration of the colour scheme, finishes, design features and appliances was essential to fulfil the brief. These had to blend effortlessly with the interior design scheme.’ Selena worked closely with Debbie to create an eye-catching scheme that featured a great layout and vibrant design finishes, while accommodating the client’s wish list of new appliances, existing appliances and decorative shelving displays. ‘Many of our clients express a desire for island units, but due to the limited space in this open-plan area, we opted for a peninsula design instead,’ says Selena.

2 SEEING RED

An early challenge was deciding on the location of the red Bertazzoni range cooker, which is a statement piece in terms of size and style. Not only was it large, but its radiant colour needed to harmonise with the two-colour tones of the cabinetry – and it needed to be situated for easy cooking and accessibility.
