For someone who claims to have no imagination when it comes to interior design, Jayne Wase is a quick learner. The Edwardian home she shares with her husband James and their children, Freya 12, Matilda, 10, and Harry, seven, is beautifully decorated and furnished. Its stylish spaces showcase a wealth of colour and pattern, and there are bold shapes and striking design choices throughout.
Getting to this point is where former nurse, now stay-at-home mum, Jayne played a masterstroke, asking her close friend, designer Zoe Fernyhough of Artisan Interiors, to get involved. ‘I’ve known Zoe for years, and she’s super stylish and has great flair, so I was so pleased when she agreed to redesign the whole house,’ says Jayne. ‘We’d been wanting to give the house a new look but just weren’t sure what that would be.’
Luckily, Zoe had plenty of ideas to share with Jayne and James to help inspire them. She put together a series of creative mood boards with different options for each room, and asked the couple to narrow the choices down until she had a clear idea of which styles and finishes they liked the best.
James travels frequently with work so gets to appreciate hotel style all over the world. ‘He’s more interested in design than I am, and when he showed Zoe some photos of The Ludlow in New York, she took the hotel’s cool, urban
