HOW DID YOU COME TO BE INVOLVED IN THIS PROJECT?

The clients, a couple with 11-year-old twins, initially came to us for interior architecture input on a new build they were developing. As they moved through the process, they pivoted and purchased this property instead.

Hoedemaker Pfeiffer’s scope then became a full renovation project.

WHAT WAS THE BRIEF?

The property’s interior architecture had been done in an inauthentic fashion. We looked to give the home a more cohesive coastal SoCal design, removing the French country details.

HOW INVOLVED WERE THE HOMEOWNERS?

They shared a desire for an adventurous colourful palette. We focused on refined casual entertaining and family-centric solutions to the furnishings and art.

TELL US ABOUT THE HOMEOWNERS’ STYLE.

Both came with a combined lifestyle ethos from early years in the Pacific Northwest fused with the casual coastal design living of years spent in southern California.

WHAT WERE THE BIGGEST PRIORITIES FOR THE HOMEOWNERS? WHAT WERE YOUR MAIN PRIORITIES?

The clients’ top priority was to bring the interior of the home in line with their aesthetic. They were keen to remove the existing ornate detailing and reflective surfaces and they were anxious to ensure that material changes would make the house the comfortable, modern and fresh home base they craved. Our top priority was to determine how to make these changes without excessive demolition, within budget and to execute a design that would be beyond our clients’ expectations.
