Starting with nothing more than a simple photograph, we can create a whole field of colourful flowers in Blender. Our first step is to take at least two photos of the flower, one from the top with all the petals in view, and one from the side to see the stem. An alternative, and more accurate, method is to actually pick a flower, separate the stem from the head, and use a scanner.

You’ll need to import these images into Photoshop and remove the background, leaving just the flower on a transparent page. Using the scanning method, this process will already be complete as it creates a mask of our flower. Once the image is ready, we can export it as a PNG and move into Blender.
