Who doesn’t love a little bit of destruction sometimes? It’s a hugely simple process to set up in Blender, and doesn’t require any external software or plugins to create.

We start out by making a plane, where we’ll place the asset we want to destroy. In order to make the collision work, we first need to assign a passive rigid body modifier to that plane. After that we can add our chosen object on top of the surface; in this case I used a statue.

To create the destruction we’re going to use the ‘Object: Cell Fracture’ add-on. You can find it in Blender by default, but will need to enable it. To do this, search for the add-on inside the Preferences panel and check the box to enable it.

Now we can generate the simulation, so select the statue, or whichever asset you want to destroy, and select the Cell Fracture quick effect in the Object section of the 3D Viewport. In the panel that pops up you can either play with the parameter or leave the default values. As soon as the simulation has been completed we’ll see the object fractured into several parts.
