CG art to inspire

ARMADON

My inspiration came from the scene featuring Daemon Targaryen and the dragon – Caraxes, the Blood Wyrm – in the HBO adaptation of HouseoftheDragon. I thought I could combine sci-fi and biology for this artwork.

In the early stages, I conceived how to do it with a sketch, and then sculpted the character and dragon in ZBrush. Daz Studio and Marvelous Designer were also used for the character and her clothes, while Substance 3D Painter was on hand for the textures. Finally, the resources were integrated and rendered in Blender, and post-production was done in Photoshop.

STRANDED ROBOT

I’m a big fan of themes related to machinery and doomsday wastelands, which explains why most of my projects are based around this subject. This piece is a key part of the world that I'm conceiving. Originally I just wanted to create a massive robotic wreckage, but soon I decided to differentiate it from other similar projects.

For the robot's appearance, I hoped it would look like it came from ancient times. I used the most basic humanoid shape and some key elements such as cables and the internal structure of the machine. At the same time, its body retained the high technology of its time, which is beyond the understanding of modern people, though the robot was now rusty and broken. To increase the mysterious sense of the technology, I added a totem texture to the robot.

To achieve more diverse expressions of colour and composition, when crafting the environment, the robot was laid to rest on a shoal by the sea, with some parts emerging from the water. This is how the idea of this picture came about. In the production stages I used Blender, 3DCoat and Photoshop. The model and material of the robot were completed in 3DCoat, before I worked on the effects for the water, grass and moss in Blender, and finally adjusted the overall effects with Photoshop.

BIRTHER

I wanted to create an organic mech inside a dark, industrial hangar. The general idea was inspired by the film BloodMachines, and the producer recently hit me up to do some work, so that’s awesome! I modelled the mech in Adobe Medium and cleaned it up in ZBrush. Parts of the environment were done in Blende
