AP: Tell us about your photography background

JL: My passion for photography began in 2014 while studying architecture at university. I bought my first camera, a Canon EOS 100D, along with a little 40mm pancake prime. Fast forward nine years and I quit my day job to follow my love of landscape photography full-time, carrying out commissions, selling prints, and running workshops and tuition across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire. Photography to me is my flow state, something I enjoy so much that I get lost amongst the landscape, forgetting everything that’s going on in life and focusing solely on capturing the change of seasons to share with others. I’m a firm believer in what I like to call ‘The Landscape Photography Process’ which I break down into Planning, Photographing, Processing and Printing. Anyone that knows or follows me will know that my focus each year is capturing the change of seasons – something I am passionate about and keeps me motivated to get outside all year round.

AP: What do you carry in your camera bag?

JL: My camera bag is from f-stop, whom I am excited to represent as a brand ambassador, and my current go-to is the Tilopa Dura Diamond and Large ICU. Inside you’ll find my two camera bodies – the Canon EOS R5, and my backup crop-sensor EOS R10 (which may soon be replaced by the R7 for its weather-sealing).

Lens-wise I own a selection of three that cover a huge focal length range from 15-500mm. I have the 15-35mm f/2.8, a 24-105mm f/4 (this is on my camera 80% of the time), and a 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1. As a Kase Ambassador since 2019, my current filters of choice are the Revolution Magnetics, giving me everything I need (polariser, 3, 6 and 10-stop ND) in a small and convenient package.

AP: If there’s one item you couldn’t live without, what would it be?

JL: Other than my EOS R5 which is everything I could dream about in a landscape photographer’s camera, it would be my most versatile lens, the Canon RF 24-105mm F4L IS USM.

AP: Did you buy it new, and what made you purchase it?

JL: I switched back to Canon in December 2021 and purchased the lens new with the intention to use it as my main lens, bridging the gap between 35-100mm. It’s so much lighter and smaller than the RF 24-70mm f/2.8 and means I’m not missing that awkward 70-100mm range which I find so useful for woodland and vistas.
