How did you get into photography?

Following a mental breakdown, a friend suggested it may help me in my recovery. It gives me a reason to get out of the house and connect with nature. Just being out in the fresh air, around nature, listening to the bird song, gives me an instant lift.

Favourite subjects

I love to observe and photograph the best of British wildlife.

What do you love about photography?

It allows me to be in the moment and gives me a break from the thoughts that come with depression. I also love posting the images on social media.

Where do you find inspiration?

I’m very lucky to live in a semi-rural spot on the border of Staffordshire and Cheshire. Here it’s not difficult to step out the front door and be greeted by birds and wildlife.

What was your first camera?

An Olympus film camera with the sliding cover over the lens.

Current kit

Olympus E-M1 Mark II. I walk miles, so weight and size is important, as is weather-sealing and fast focus.

Favourite lens

M.Zuiko 100-400mm. The equivalent of 200-800mm is great for wildlife photography.

Favourite accessory

Op/Tech Sling – it’s very comfortable for carrying a camera all day.

Dream purchase

I’d love the OM1, paired with the 150-400 Pro lens. With the built-in teleconverter and crop factor that’s a reach of 1000mm equivalent, and because of the OM1’s excellent IBIS it can be used handheld – wow!

What software do you use for editing?

Lightroom, Photoshop, DxO PureRAW.

Favourite photographers

For me it’s people who have a passion for what they do. So people like Chris Packham and Andy Rouse. Andy’s YouTube series is excellent – he gives you an insight into how he works.

Favourite tips

Find a passion and photograph that, it will be reflected in the photographs you take. Sit by a lake observing the wildlife and playing with the settings on your camera –
