Three Canon EOS 80D users give their verdict

Taylor Peake

The Canon EOS 80D was my introduction into the world of DSLR photography, a significant step up from my previous low-end bridge camera. My initial impressions were overwhelmingly positive, with standout features including exceptional battery life, a host of user-friendly features, and impressive image quality. When paired with a Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary lens, the camera’s capabilities shine, allowing me to achieve a substantial focal length of 960mm at f/6.3 – perfect for capturing the type of close-up shots I love to share.

In terms of value for money, the EOS 80D exceeds expectations, making it a top contender in its price range. The fully articulated touchscreen and seamless Wi-Fi connectivity add to its appeal, making it versatile for both photography and video.

However, it’s worth noting that the autofocus performance may not meet the demands of the very fastest-moving or erratic subjects, making wildlife photography somewhat challenging. Despite this limitation, the Canon EOS 80D presents an excellent upgrade from entry-level cameras without breaking the bank.

I have been using the Canon EOS 80D for over five years, mainly for landscape photography. With two lenses, the Canon EF-S 18- 135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM and EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM, I am able to capture a variety of scenes from wideangle vistas to long-distance shoots. In the past five years I have photographed many beautiful landscapes of Iceland, the Dolomites, Madeira and Slovenia with the EOS 80D and these lenses, always having great fun in the process.

Thanks to its weather-sealed body I have never experienced any problems with my camera even when it was completely soaked while shooting Icelandic waterfalls. I’ve also spent dozens of winter sunrises and sunsets in the Polish mountains and it has always worked perfectly.

What I love about the Canon EOS 80D is that for a small price you get a fantastic device which enables you to enjoy photography and develop your skills. Money saved can alway
