Angler's Mail Magazine
29 April 2014
THE variety of fishing offered in this country (and I write just before St. George’s Day) is something we truly can be proud of. That fact is sometimes lost on us lucky British anglers, but we put the variety back into fishing this week with our latest Where To Fish This Weekend special focus. Our regional experts have been scouring their patch to find day ticket venues where unusual species are not just a remote possibility, but a near-certainty. Yes, you’ll catch something colourful this weekend with their help! Arguably the most impressive of the ornamentals in my opinion is the golden orfe. You’ll see a 4 lb 12 oz specimen at the top of this issue’s front cover, caught by Sussex-based Mail regular Lee Chatfi eld. He loves ‘em. But just as interesting was the fact that he caught 20 tench (yes, green ones) in the same sitting on waggler and maggot underlining the fact that the species is indeed on the feed now. IF YOU’RE A REGULAR AM reader you’ll know we like to shine the spotlight on all sides of our sport, and this week John Bailey goes deep into a side that is a cult, and very slowly growing - coarse fish on fly gear. With help from Dominic Garnett, their fourpager starting in p.12 really is a fantastic start point if you fancy a slice of this action. And if you’re just “fl y curious”, wishing to broaden your knowledge of tactics, you’d be well advised to read it. I DON’T expect a hardcore boilie user, or maggot addict, to be converted to fl y styles any day soon, but we have must-reads for you too in p.4/5 and p.26. ENJOY this issue, and be sure to catch up with us again on Tuesday, April 29 for another sparkling Angler’s Mail. Be lucky! Tim Knight, Editor
