Great to meet the angling public, as we work hard and play harder!

WELL, that’s the river season finished for another year. If I’m honest, I’ve never seen the rivers in worse condition, and never seen so much rain and so many floods all over the country.

But let’s think positive and look forward to a good spring, pleasant fishing and some decent catches.

I’ve spent the last three days at the Big One show, and that’s already put me in a good mood, as I reckon it was the best show

I’ve attended for many a year. The trade needed a good marketplace and, listening to people who took stand space there, they were pleased with sales. Attendances seemed to be up, too, especially on the Saturday.

If I had to pick out one negative, it would be that the general coarse angler was poorly represented. Sadly, the move to carp fishing seems to be gathering pace all the time, and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing for the sport in the long run. Only time will tell.

On a personal note, I had the most incredible show, meeting some lovely people who had nice things to say about what I am involved with, whether that be my column in Angling Times, my Facebook live show or my YouTube videos.

Thanks to all of you who made the effort to come up to me and make my weekend. When that happens it makes all the hard work worthwhile.
