LAST weekend I embarked on a task which I dread and look forward to in equal measure... the spring tidy-up of my fishing kit!

As my carp tackle hadn’t been out much since last autumn I always fear what I’m going to find festering in a bucket somewhere and, with all the gear out of the garage and spread over the lawn, I invariably have to justify to my wife that every item is, of course, essential. And yes, invariably I will have to go to the tackle shop and get some more bits!

This is also a good time to sort out the gear I’ve been using over the winter and to give it a clean and a wipe-down before it gets relegated to the back of the garage again until later in the year.

The reels I plan to use over the coming months were all treated to fresh line, and I did a stock-take of various tackle boxes and pouches and made a list of all the terminal tackle bits and bobs that I’m running low on and that will need replacing soon.
