YOUR TOP CATCHES

“I HEADED to Johnson’s Lake on the Godalming AS ticket the other weekend when, in mild and overcast conditions, I had the tench session of a lifetime!

“Two fish over the 7lb mark graced my net, topped by this 7lb 7oz personal best. In addition, I had a few other good ones, plus a roach of 1lb 6oz, thrown in for good measure.

“The winning tactic was groundbait feeders on heli-rigs, with maggots and casters on the hook.

“I filled the feeders with groundbait, 2mm pellets, maggots and casters, and recast every half-an-hour or so, after kicking off with 10 bait-up casts to roughly the same spot at around 40m out.”

Richie’s top tip: I didn’t use distance sticks or a line clip. Instead, my aim was to bait up a rough area rather than put all the feed on a plate.
Carrie’s top tip: The margins are a fantastic place to target on most stillwaters. Keep quiet, and you’ve every chance of finding fish there.

“LAST winter I enjoyed a great pike season, catching plenty of decent fish. A 20-pounder had eluded me until right at the end, though, when I managed my target with this 21lb 4oz fish.

“It was caught in the margins of a large stillwater on a floatfished mackerel, and I was over the moon with it!”

Riley’s top tip: Micro lures are a great bet, fished on light jig heads and cast around any features.

“I TOOK my nine-year-old, Riley, fishing with my friend on the Staffs Worcester Canal near Wolverhampton.

“Conditions were perfect, with temperatures rising and overcast skies. Riley was the first to get among the fish, landing a 6oz perch. He then proceeded to land numerous others, including fish of 1lb 5oz and a PB of 2lb, plus a 5lb pike!

“He was giving me and my friend some stick on the way home, asking if we wanted a lesson! He definitely got his tactics right this time, h
