SPORTY New N Line trim has been added as a bridge between the standard Ioniq 5 and N hot hatch, and features unique styling upgrades

HYUNDAI has revealed a refreshed Ioniq 5 EV with more range, improved safety, a new look and fresh tech. The midlife update also brings a sporty N Line trim, which in turn gets its own bespoke design.

The maker has clearly seen the threat of the Tesla Model 3 and Skoda Enyaq – both of which have just received their own midlife facelifts – and felt the need to respond. The Ioniq 5’s sister car, the Kia EV6, is also expected to be updated in 2024.

Central to the changes is the introduction of the larger 84kWh battery from the Ioniq 5 N hot hatch. Hyundai hasn’t said what range the updated Ioniq 5 will offer, but we expect an increase on the current car’s 321-mile maximum. There’s no word on whether the 58kWh model will remain in the line-up.

The exterior tweaks for the Ioniq 5 are subtle. The bumpers have been restyled to emphasise the car’s “low and wide SUV stance”. It’s 20mm longer than before as a result, while the rear spoiler has grown 50mm for a sportier look. Lastly, there are new wheel designs to choose from.

Inside, the steering wheel has been given a small redesign and the centre console has been restyled, with a wireless smartphone charging pad and two cupholders now sitting beside each other. The pair of 12.3-inch screens remain, although H
