Modelling chocolate teddy bear

This teddy bear can sit proudly on top of a 1st birthday cake or baby shower cake, simply change the colour of the dungarees and ribbon to suit!

Edibles

1x 6x6in round cake, ganached 1kg white sugarpaste 1kg white modelling chocolate 200g dark modelling chocolate 50g black modelling chocolate 20g red modelling chocolate Confectioner’s glaze Brown petal dust 200g RKT (rice krispie treats) Edible glue

10in round cake board
Rolling pin
Smoother

3x skewers

MAKE THE HEAD AND BODY SHAPES

1 Use your hands to squash the RKT into the body shape and into the head shape as shown.

2 Mix some dark modelling chocolate into the white until you get a beige colour. Cover the body with the modelling chocolate.

3 Cover the head with the modelling chocolate.

4 Use cornflour to help smooth the chocolate.

MAKE THE FACIAL FEATURES

5 Use your pinky finger to make indents for the eyes.

6 Mix a little white modelling chocolate into the dark modelling chocolate until you get a mid-brown tone for the muzzle. Roll into a ball

7 Attach to the face using a little water or edible glue.

8 For the nose, roll some dark modelling chocolate into a ball and for the eyes roll some black modelling chocolate into two smaller balls.

9 Attach the nose to the muzzle using a little water.

10 Insert the eyes into the holes.

11 Use the Dresden tool to score a line in the muzzle just under the nose.

12 For the ears, roll some beige modelling chocolate into two balls. Push your thumb into the centre of each ball creating an indent.

13 Roll two small balls of the mid-brown modelling chocolate.

14 Push each ball into the indent and use a circling motion to gently spread it out.

15 Chop a little off each ear so you have a flat surface to attach to the head. Use water or edible glue to attach the ears to the head.

16 To attach the head to the body, place three skewers into the body.

17 Push the head onto the skewers.

MAKE THE LEGS AND ARMS

18 Roll a long piece of the beige modelling chocolate. Chop the roll in half on the diagonal as shown.

19 To make the arms, roll two pieces of beige modelling chocolate into large teardrop shapes.

MAKE THE DUNGAREES

20 Roll out some red modelling chocolate.

21 Cut the modelling chocolate into two long rectangles.

22 Wrap these around the bottom of the body.

23 Cut another smaller rectangle for the top of the dungarees. Attach this rectangle to the front of the teddy bear using a little water.

24 For the legs, roll two more rectangles. Lay a rectangle over each leg, turning up the end nearest the foot and
