A short stay in a secluded shepherd’s hut can be the perfect rejuvenating holiday

TRAVEL DELIGHTS

Your editor’s note in the September issue, observing that “some of the best places for holidays are those overlooked corners that you miss on the way to somewhere [else]”, resonated deeply with me.

In 2018, my partner and I were en route to Perth when we found ourselves stuck in a traffic jam. With no sign of traffic easing and our sandwiches in the boot, we made a spontaneous decision to take the next exit for a quick meal break. To our delight, we stumbled upon a picturesque, tranquil village. It boasted a charming farm shop, a cosy pub and seemingly endless walking trails. After a leisurely lunch and a chance to stretch our legs, we resumed our journey.

A year later, while searching for a short-break rental, we recalled that memorable stop. Just outside the village, we discovered a shepherd’s hut, nestled in a field with a view of a farm. We’ve returned to this hidden gem countless times since. It has become our sanctuary for long walks with our beloved cocker spaniel, Lola. The seclusion provides unparalleled tranquility and our secret place has become a cherished retreat.

Your words serve as a poignant reminder that countless uncharted treasures await discovery across our beautiful country. I’m immensely grateful that we had the privilege of finding our own quiet, special, and secret haven.
