We’re getting to the good bit, as our gardens fully wake up for spring and we start thinking about growing and enjoying our outdoor spaces in the months to come. It’s the time to tidy up and start new projects, so let’s get cracking! With the Easter weekend on the horizon, I’ll be planting a few pots for instant spring cheer, getting my veg beds in shape and dusting down the garden furniture in the hope there’ll be the chance to sit outside. Hurrah, things are looking up!

But it can get a bit hectic in the garden at this time too and, if I’m honest, I do struggle to keep on top of everything. Have you sown your tomato seeds yet? No, me neither – but don’t panic. Last year, we put varieties on trial to discover those that perform best after a slightly late start, so turn to page 108 to discover the tomatoes that will catch up and still reward you with a delicious harvest in a few months. And here’s the thing to remember – even if it is hectic now, everything in the garden usually turns out okay.

And last, but certainly not least, it’s an exciting month for subscribers. From 1 April, Alan Titchmarsh will guest edit Premium, the exclusive subscriber-only area of GardenersWorld.com. Turn the page to see what lies in store, including Alan’s must-see tour of The King’s garden at Highgrove, plus his April garden highlights, favourite plants and more. And if you’re not a subscriber, turn to page 38 to find out how you can join the club and enjoy all Premium has to offer.

Happy gardening!
