Shock royal row between the Queen and Princess

News of Prince William’s plan to rent out his father’s much-loved Welsh holiday home has caused fresh tension between the two royal families. The Prince of Wales is putting his foot down when it comes to King Charles’ cottage in Llwynywermod, after inheriting it as part of the Duchy of Cornwall private estates last year.

Charles, 74, is said to be “seething” and “disappointed” over his eldest son’s proposals. The monarch, who normally spends time at his Welsh cottage every summer, will now have to pay to stay as a guest in the £1.2million property on the borders of the Brecon Beacons National Park, which he bought in 2007 and lovingly restored.

He reportedly also has to move his belongings out by September, when the property will be listed for rental. And while this causes a clash between father and son, an insider tells us that it is also stirring up tension between the pair’s wives, with Queen Camilla “blaming” Kate.

“Camilla thinks William has a lot of cheek not abiding by his father’s wishes and keeping the property maintained how he would have wanted it – and the notion that a serving Sovereign should have to pay rent or remove his belongings is utterly absurd,” the source says. “She blames Kate for stirring up drama and filling William’s head with nonsense… Kate’s head is spinning. She’s more than capable of standing firm.”

The insider continues, “William isn’t looking to upset anyone, least of all his father and stepmother, but he’s adamant that rules are rules and he can’t go dishing out preferential treatment to anyone under any circumstance. It’s not something Charles can really challenge and nor is he trying to put his foot down and out-muscle William on this decision in any way. But it doesn’t take away from the fact he’s taken aback and been caught off guard by this turn of events, to put it mildly.” They add, “Kate agrees with William that this decision is for the best and, whilst it’s regrettable that Charles is miffed, there’s not much, if anything, to apologise for here. Camilla can be as indignant about it as she likes, that’s her lookout and, for now, Kate’s just letting her say her thing and blow off steam without responding to it.”

The latest clash between Camilla, 76, and her daughter-in-law, 41, has reignited rumours of simmering tension between them, following their promoted roles within the monarchy in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s death last September, which culminated in an “explosive fight
