Brothers set for face-to-face talks next month… but will Meghan ruin their plans?
The news of Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis sent shockwaves around the world last month – not least for her brother-in-law Prince Harry, who in his California home has never been physically and emotionally further away from his family. But with Harry returning to the UK in a few weeks’ time for the 10th anniversary of his Invictus Games on 8 May, insiders believe the recent royal health scares could lead to the Duke of Sussex finally reuniting with his family and sitting down with Prince William face-to-face.
After years of rows between Harry and his family, in particular his brother Prince William, he dropped everything in February to “jump on a plane” to the UK and see his father King Charles after the monarch’s own cancer diagnosis was revealed. At the time, Harry said that he’d see his family on planned future visits to the UK. Now, royal insiders believe this next trip home could see him visit William and Kate, following her own news, which came as a shock to everyone after her abdominal surgery in January.
According to reports, Harry only found out about Kate’s cancer diagnosis along with her public video statement, which was released last month.
Harry recently said on US TV, “I think any illness, any sickness brings families together.” And royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams thinks this could unite Harry and William. He told The Sun, “There could be something that surprises us all. You could have all the Sussexes over here, it’s perfectly possible a reunion could happen. Next week, next month, next year, you could get something you never dreamed you’d get.”
“Serious illness is the big changer, despite everything that’s happened, given the seriousness of the situation, anything can happen,” he said. “William is under tremendous pressure, he’s got a father and his wife who are seriously ill and on top of that there are royal duties. When you have serious illness it’s a game-changer and the situation changes totally.”
Royal expert Tom Quinn has revealed that Kate and William have even invited Meghan and Harry to visit them with their children Archie, four, and Lilibet, two. He said, “William and Kate have suggested that Meghan and Harry bring the children and that the two couples and their families try to make up, but the suggestion is not leading anywhere so far.” This would allow the Sussex children to meet their cousins George, ten, Charlotte, eight, and Louis, five.
