Alison Hammond’s star just keeps rising. And why wouldn’t it? Her laughter is possibly the most infectious on TV.

Yet, despite her success on the small screen, the presenter has opened up about her secret sadness off-camera – alife-long battle with ‘uncontrollable obesity’.

The popular 48-year-old left many This Morning viewers emotional during a recent episode she was hosting alongside Dermot O’Leary, as she addressed her body confidence issues.

During a phone-in, where guests discussed their body hang-ups, the confident, bubbly star we are used to seeing on TV revealed that isn’t always how she’s feeling inside.

A viewer called Elaine had rung the show to confess that she was too ashamed to go to the beach, as she suffers from lymphoedema – and worried people would stare at her.

A long-term chronic condition, lymphoedema causes swelling in the body’s tissues – and is common in the legs. Elaine said: ‘Alison you always look good. You’re an inspiration to me…’

Clearly touched, Alison replied: ‘Thank you - but I have insecurities, too. I feel like you do, as well. It’s not all perfect, what you see on TV. I don’t like taking my jacket off. But you’ve got to enjoy your life as before you know it, we’re not here. Your legs are beautiful. I go to the gym and people are staring at me. But that’s all that happens, then they’re going to worry about what’s going on in their lives.’
