American actress Christina Applegate choked back tears as Hollywood’s finest commended her bravery

Ever since 2021, when Hollywood actress Christina Applegate was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) – a debilitating condition that affects the brain and nerves – she’s been open about her health battle.

So when the Married… With Children star, 52, stepped out at the glitzy 2024 annual Emmy Awards to present a gong, she was met with the warmest of welcomes – one that left her wiping away tears.

The mum-of-one, who is also famed for her roles in Samantha Who? and recent Netflix hit Dead to Me, walked onto the stage arm in arm with host Anthony Anderson for support, clutching a walking cane.

The star-studded audience– which included the likes of Ted Lasso actress Hannah Waddingham and Brit winner Matthew Macfadyen – rose and gave her a standing ovation, which left Christina overwhelmed and emotional.

‘Thank you so much,’ she said as she silenced the crowd’s deafening cheers and looked out to the guests with glassy eyes.

But Christina also showed the other way she’s facing her ordeal – with her now trademark humour.

‘You’re totally shaming me with disability by standing up, it’s fine, OK…’ she quipped.

Christina then raised more laughs as she poked fun at the rise in popularity of Ozempic, a diabetes medication that is now widely used for weight loss, as she added, with humour, ‘Body not by Ozempic.”
