What ’s the biggest lie you’ve ever told?

Whether it’s cancelling plans or blaming being late on traffic, we’re all guilty of telling a small white lie. According to research by Uber Eats, the top lie Brits admit to telling every week include: ‘I forgot’, ‘I’ll do it tomorrow’, and ‘I am listening ’ – with as many as 80 per cent admitting to telling fibs on an average of 34 times a week, according to a poll of 2,000 adults. The biggest reasons for lying include not wanting to offend others by revealing what they really think (52 per cent), to keep people onside (34 per cent), and to avoid a telling off (32 per cent). The study also found those polled are most likely to lie to a partner – with 46 per cent of those who admit to lying having done just that. Meanwhile, work colleagues came second, followed by employers – while 23 per cent of Brits confessed to fibbing to a police officer and 14 per cent admitted to lying to their child’s teacher.
