After the heartbreaking death of her beloved husband Derek Draper, Kate Garraway returned to work, with reports she’s ‘ready to get her life back’ – though it didn’t come without its heartache…

Now her beloved Derek has been laid to rest – at an emotional funeral on 2 February at the church where they married – grieving TV presenter Kate Garraway put on a brave face as she returned to the Good MorningBritainstudio alongside co-host Ben Shephard.

On her first day back, Kate said, ‘The make-up girls had me in tears this morning, just by saying hello.’

Close friend Ben thanked viewers for their ‘lovely messages’, reading out one that said, ‘Lovely to see you back Kate, with Ben. As a widow myself, I know those wobbly feelings.’

The message prompted the heartbroken star to say, ‘The other day, somebody called me a widow for the first time. It took my breath away.’

Unfortunately, others weren’t quite so kind to Kate on her return.

The following day, she opened up about the hate she had received online for going back to work after Derek’s funeral.

The host revealed, ‘I got a bit of flack on social media yesterday for laughing with you [Ben], as if that implied I didn’t care…’

The mum-of-two admitted she has been feeling ‘very numb’ since the loss of Derek.

‘I’m very aware of the sensation of grief, although also very aware that actually I’m only at the first stages.’
