Heidi, we already knew you as an all-rounder and now you’re adding singing to your repertoire…
It’s so funny because I have a really annoying voice. It’s like really high and super-fast. So when I was doing this I was like, ‘OK, I’m going to get my sexy voice on!’ That’s what you do when you don’t have a great voice. You also need a really good producer to tweak your thing and make you sound so much better. It was fun.
So were your kids Leni, Henry, Johan and Lou impressed when you told them who you were recording with?
Well, they’re teenagers, so they all know Snoop Dogg and they think he’s pretty cool. Whether that makes me pretty cool, I don’t know. I hope so. I did actually check a while back to make sure I wasn’t embarrassing them because I would never want to do that. They’re all good with it.
Of course you know all about rating performers, as you’ve been on America’s Got Talent since 2013, alongside the likes of Simon Cowell and Mel B. After more than a decade on the show do you think you’ve got more or less competitive on that?
Oh, more! I have always been very competitive. I still am. I’m the most competitive of all of the judges in AGT. Simon is pretty competitive and Mel B definitely is, but no one wants to win more than me.
So when you aren’t working, are you chilling on the sofa like the rest of us, watching those kind of shows?
I love watching talent shows. I love the stories and the journeys of them, live shows especially. I love the interaction with people on stage. When I’m working as a judge, I love that interaction even more. I get a buzz out of being live and knowing almost anything can happen any time. I know as a viewer, th
