BON VOYAGE
The old man and I are off on our hols, and I can’t wait. After a huge amount of dithering, I phoned a travel company and a man called Paul did everything for me.
It was like being in the olden days, I told him what we were after and he sorted it all out – flights, trains, hotels. In fact, I’m thinking of asking Paul to come with us, because I think we’ll have a better time if we just do everything he tells us to do.
I hate booking holidays, I hate the responsibility of choosing flights and accommodation. I dither and faff, and by the time I go back to book those flights we talked about two days ago, they’ve gone.
Anyway, thanks to Paul, we’re doing a fancy scenic railway journey – the Glacier Express in Switzerland, no less.
This is a train journey that takes more than eight hours and all you do is sit and stare out of the window at the mountains, without having to walk uphill or wet your pants on a scary ski lift.
This kind of holiday would be some people’s worst nightmare, but then some people go to Dubai.
The good thing about going to a cold country in April, is that you don’t have to pretend you’re going to lose weight, you’re not going to be lolling about in a bikini, or even a big sturdy swimsuit, with a modesty frill around the thighs
