Vanessa explains her vision of taking a van full of clothes to theatres and town halls up and down the country.

‘I’d love to be on QVC, too,’ she enthuses. ‘Selling is in my DNA. I love it! It’s been buried in me for years but now… I’m in my element.

‘It’s another adventure at this stage and age, isn’t it?! An adventure for four women together.’

The four women are herself, The Apprentice’s ‘Queen of Mean’ Linda Plant – and two other ‘capable businesswomen of a certain age’, who ‘just wanted doing something together’.

What sizes does the range go up to?

‘Well, we’re expanding,’ she admits. ‘Before Christmas, when we first launched, I had letters from ladies saying – “I’m size 22, where is the dress for me? Have you forgotten what it’s like Vanessa?” Of course not – but you can’t start with every size and we have now scaled up to size 24!

‘I know better than anyone just because you are a certain size, it doesn’t mean you don’t want a best dress you feel great in… you want pretty colours and fabrics. You don’t want to be camouflaged in some old sack! You want to swirl and flounce and look lovely.’

You can tell from Vanessa’s face that, like her dad, she really does lovs selling. And she’s good at it – I am already being told to explain which one is my favourite dress and why.

She turns to the others in the studio: ‘OK, come on – anyone else want to try one? I’ll wrap it up – take two! For cash.’

This is the real Vanessa. It’s a side to her personality we rarely get to see on political TV and it is very funny that it has come out at this late stage – but it has, with a venge
