WELCOME AS YOU READ this, the January blues will be in full swing, only this time you’ll be in an entirely new decade. But I’m writing it at the back end of 2019, a couple of days before Christmas, thinking about the year – and decade – we’ve just had in LEGO. Of course, we’ve already celebrated the 2010s in the brick, but our rundown of the decade’s best came before the LEGO Group unveiled 76139 1989 Batmobile. To make up for missing it off our list, we’ve dedicated this month’s front cover to the impressively imposing ride, which totally suits LEGO Batman’s mantra of only building in black (and very, very dark grey).
