Ahoy, me hearties! My LEGO heyday arrived slightly too late to enjoy Pirates at its peak, but I was enamoured with the 2009 reboot. And whether you spent your childhood swashbuckling through brick-built adventures or not, it’s clear that 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay is something special. Our review on page 38 can attest to that – but first, set sail to page 30 for a behind-the-scenes interview with the savvy seafarers who brought the enormous Ideas model to life. If you’re up for a little long-form reading, we’ve spent some time this month talking to renowned LEGO artist Ekow Nimako, who uses our favourite plastic pieces to fill a particular void in the LEGO Group’s representation. Or if you’re looking for a little inspiration to get hands-on with your bricks, flip to page 82, where our build specialist Simon takes to the skies for his latest technique tutorial. With four extra pages to dig into this issue, we’ve still got room for all our regulars, too – including a rundown of the top ten CFOLs on page 18, a stroll down memory lane with Ice Planet 2002 on page 98, and the next instalment of Daniel’s UCS Star Destroyer interior guide on page 74. Enjoy the issue, and don’t forget to subscribe for your chance to win some free LEGO. It’s better than walking the plank. Chris Wharfe Editor
