In all birdkeeping, there’s nothing to beat a happy mixed aviary of lively finches. And this week we profile a finch that deserves wider appreciation: the delightful African silverbill. Sweet-voiced, vivacious, typically double-mad to breed and (not least) affordable, this little fellow ticks all the boxes. How about joining the silverbill club and trying out some of the cool new colours? Of course if canaries are your bag, we have plenty to inform and mull over. We meet the handsome Australian goldenface budgie and get an update on the UK softbill breeding scene. Also we’re reminded how boxes for nests are helping to save some of the world’s rarest species.
