Lots of fanciers have a lucky bird in their collection. Our cover bird, the swallow, is everyone’s lucky bird: a proven(!) bringer of good fortune wherever it is seen or, better, elects to nest. Swallows in captivity? Yes, there are plenty, in fact! We hear about them and their wild cousins in an absorbing detailed study. Among more strictly exhibition birds, we welcome budgie breeder Neil Cawley who describes how he thought and fought his way back from the dreaded French Moult in his birdroom.
