C&AB loves starlings! On the show bench we’re crazy about the gorgeous colour mutations that skilled breeders now produce. And up in the sky these birds make wonderful fluid patterns when they form giant flocks. This week we hear from a fancier who’s seen the world’s most famous murmuration in the heart of Rome (and also a fantastic one over the sea at Southend!) Staying with native birds we have a breeding update on finches in North Wales, siskins leading the way. With foreign finches, we learn about a very special (= tricky!) pair of cutthroats and get expert news and advice on Bengalese. We hear how one budgie man is experimenting with humidity control in the birdroom – especially vital in hot weather. We spend more time with the enterprising young Ulster fancier Ryan Davis, and we have a thought-provoking comment on how to enjoy, not endure, social media.
