Once common in the UK, public park aviaries are now rare - and the loss is ours. Overseas, many still thrive, and this week we visit three of the finest maintained in Hong Kong. In its public spaces, this packed city supports an amazing array of birdlife in superb conditions – all for the people to enjoy. Any fancier who visits Hong Kong will want to take in the inspiration that these places supply. Inspiring in a different sense is our celebration of the life of Jo Mannes, the great German budgie man who passed away in September. Words and pictures have flooded in from his many friends.
