MUD, SWEAT & BEERS!

The first-ever Campervan Campout event was a huge success. Iain Duff enjoyed a fun-filled family weekend

A festival wouldn’t be a festival without top tunes, fab food and delicious drinks. And, at our first ever Campervan Campout event, we had our fair share of all of them.

It didn’t stop there. Axethrowing, archery and yoga; a shopping village, gin festival and a silent disco.... there was so much for the whole family to enjoy.

Throw in lots of sparkling new campervans to feast your eyes on, some essential vanlife advice and a little bit of Sunday sunshine, and you had all the ingredients for a fantastic weekend.

Of course, no festival would be complete without a smattering of rain and mud, too. But did we let that spoil the party? No way… By the time DJ, Craig Charles, opened up his trunk of funk on Saturday evening, everyone was dancing and the afternoon’s downpours were a distant memory. And, to be honest, even if the rain had carried on into the night, it would not have spoiled the atmosphere generated by his set of some of the best funk and soul classics.

The verdict was that it was an excellent weekend. The whole Campervan team loved meeting so many readers and we were delighted to see smiling faces of all ages everywhere. Because ultimately that’s what camping and festivals are all about.

“It was a fabulous weekend – it rained on Saturday but the rest of the weekend was lovely," Campervan Head of Content, Daniel Attwood said.

“Everyone we spoke to had a fantastic time – the smiles on the faces of the campers we met during the weekend told its own story. It was so good to meet so many readers.”

The South of England Showground in Ardingly, West Sussex, was the venue for this brand-new campervan festival.

The fun started on Friday with live music on the main stage and a selection of bloggers, vloggers and podcasters – including our very own Tash Gooch and Peter Vaughan – sharing their campervanning experiences on-stage in the Vanlife Hub.

The dos and don’ts of buying a campervan, European travel ideas, self builds, living in a ’van full-time, solo female travelling and how to earn money while on the road were among the topics tackled by the guest speakers.

Meanwhile, the Wellness Sanctuary offered visitors yoga sessions, breathing workshops and mental health talks.
