Great things come in small packages, and that’s what Tash will be hoping for after downsizing her campervan

GOING SOLO

Imentioned in a previous column that I had downsized my campervan. I had a Danbury Surf, based on a VW T5.1, and it was fantastic. But, as ever with my lifestyle, circumstances change, including how I use my camper.

So, I am thrilled to introduce you to Fabio, my Nu Venture Compact micro camper! The ’van is based on a long-wheelbase 2014 Fiat Doblo Cargo.

Nu Venture is usually recognised for its bespoke, micro coachbuilt motorhomes. My Compact is one of only a handful of Nu Venture panel van conversions in existence.

Why did I downsize? Firstly, I knew my T5.1 wouldn’t get much use this year. I’ve had a busy start to 2023, with speaking at Warners Shows, taking part in Bailey of Bristol’s Sahara Challenge and then heading to mainland Europe to tour for seven weeks in the motorhome.

It felt like my Danbury would be wasted, sat there for months on end not being used! It was time for someone else to enjoy adventures in it. Plus, there were a few elements of the layout that weren’t working for me anymore.

And so the decision was made... I began the search for a micro camper! And within a few days, I had come across my Compact, located just over an hour away from where we were.

I made the call and drove to see it that evening. When we arrived, we could tell straight away it had been looked after. It was in great condition and the dealer had made sure it was in top condition.

I mulled it over, had discussions with my husband and we decided to go for it. We drove to collect it the next evening.

The layout is perfect for a solo camper. There is a bench seat/bed down one side, with the sink and two-ring gas hob in the ‘kitchen’ opposite. The unit has drawers and storage cupboards underneath, and this is where my 10-
