Built on the orders of Henry VIII, Kent’s Walmer Castle was originally designed to be a defensive Tudor fortress. From 1 December this year until 1 January, Christmas at the castle will see a seasonal light trail brought to the now country house retreat, on the coast just outside of Deal. Immerse yourself in a trail of spectacular illuminations and installations, transforming the grounds into a winter wonderland. Adding to the festivities will be a choice of festive food and a selection of warming beverages.
A 30-minute drive from the castle is the Chequers Caravan Site. Situated on the main road between Folkestone and Canterbury, and with a bus stop at the site entrance, access for exploring the whole of Kent is easy. There are grass and hardstanding pitches with electric hook-up. While there are toilets on site, it is worth noting that there are no shower facilities.

The only city in Cornwall, Truro will be getting in the festive spirit from 24 November this year when the city’s Christmas lights are switched on.
There is a Father Christmas parade on 29 November and the annual Christmas market will run from the first week of December right up until Christmas Eve, from Wednesdays to Sundays. If you fancy some music or theatre then head to Truro’s historic cathedral on 13 December for an evening of classical Viennese music, or to the Hall for Cornwall theatre to watch Peter Pan from 4 to 31 December.
Set in the countryside and surrounded by trees, adults-only Cosawes Park is less than seven miles from Truro, with public transport easily accessed. Located within a sheltered valley, the site has grass pitches with electric or premium fully serviced hardstandings. Facilities include toilets, showers and a laundry room.
