Deciding to buy a campervan or motorhome is the easy bit − who wouldn't want a leisure vehicle sitting on their drive, ready for a weekend away or a longer adventure?

But there is so much choice out there. Just look at all the models listed in our Buyers' Guide on page 88 − and that doesn't include the many smaller converters dotted around the UK, nor the many discontinued models available on the secondhand market.

Finding the right 'van for you − your perfect motorhome − is so much more complicated than deciding between a Golf or a Focus, a 3-Series or a C-Class. There are so many permutations and so much to consider. And this is likely to be the second most expensive purchase of your life, after your house, so you'll want to spend such a big sum wisely.

This annual publication is designed to help you through the buying process, which shouldn't be rushed. Watch the reviews on our YouTube channel, MotorhomeCampervan, and book a trip to one of the Warners motorhome shows (see page 59) to see as many different sizes and types of 'van as you can. Check out different layouts and consider how you'll use your new vehicle. Then, think about hiring a motorhome to see how you get on with driving it and living on board.

If that first trip in a rented 'van seems daunting, don't be put off − motorhomers are a friendly bunch and there'll always be someone to remind you how to operate the fridge or empty the loo.

When you do find that perfect 'van, you won't look back. Whether it's walking weekends in Wales or a months-long tour of Europe, travelling is best in your own home on wheels!
