As we approach the end of another year, I’d like to say a big thank you to all readers for the continued support to Car Mechanics magazine. We can’t produce a quality product without support – and that includes you.

Also, I’d like to thank the hard-working team of writers at CM, who bring us the vast knowledge that the magazine offers to anyone reading it. Ultimately, it is an educational magazine.

Plus, our team of advertising sales people, who work hard to gain momentum in pushing the Car Mechanics name out to a wider audience – which seems a strange thing to say for a magazine that is 65 years old. The automotive aftermarket supply chain is a huge world (UK and abroad) – continuously designing, making and supplying a vast amount of repair and tool options to garages (and us DIYers). The continued support from our advertisers is greatly valued too.

As we show steady growth from the tricky conditions during 2020-21 lockdown periods, where many shops selling Car Mechanics had temporarily closed, 2023 has happily seen us increase from 84 pages to the now standard 100-page issues.

For some reason, I recently purchased this Kia Sedona 2.9 CRDi 4-cylinder automatic from BCA. It was cheap (the attraction) and the top-of-the-range TS model. TS and LS models come with electrically-operated rear doors, controlled by the key fob (both working) and this one has a roof-mounted DVD entertainment package. It does 0-60mph in 15.7secs and should return 30mpg. However, the road tax is £59 a month and there’s a coolant issue that I need to get to the bottom of. At the moment it’s an expensive piece of kerbside furniture.

A couple of bumper issues are planned for 2024 and we will, as always, bring our Instant Expert monthly feature to you via Rob Marshall’s excellent in-depth reports. Oh, and I have quite a few updates to publish in the Our Cars section during 2024 – including the Sedona seen above, which I bought for a reason – or did I? Even I’m confused.

Overhauling

Our tenth ‘yellow book’ has been on sale since the end of September at WHSmith stores and online – I forgot to promote this a couple of issues ago. Check with WHSmith first though as it may now be off-sale after nearly three months on the shelf. However, it’s always available to buy from the Kelsey online shop.
