DOES IT WORK?

Face Connect tech can unlock the Genesis GV60 by scanning your face. No key required.

Genesis is claiming a world first: using your face to unlock your car. It goes beyond familiar keyless entry systems by not requiring you to even have a key or paired phone in your pocket, and it’s standard equipment on all GV60s.

Of course, biometric security isn’t any-thing new. The tech is applied to loads of smartphones these days, and car makers in-cluding Mercedes-Benz use facial recogni-tion inside the cabin to load a driver’s profile (and corresponding settings) into the info-tainment system on entry. It only works if you have set up your driver profile (which should be done when you get the car to unlock all of its features), and you’re expected to pair your fingerprint.

Next comes the facial recognition regis-tration. It’s wise to place your hands on the beltline, arms outstretched, to get the right distance from the camera as it scans your face to memory. We’ve tried the tech in Ko-rea as well as the UK and it can sometimes take a few tries for it to register your face. We noticed that the camera str
