lots of family layouts in a wide choice of spec levels, and luxurious maximum-width caravans in the top price echelon.

Swift’s 39 caravans in seven ranges encompass the whole gamut of touring caravan choice. Starting with the brilliant little Basecamp, designed as a base for sport-oriented holidays, and with a wide door at the rear through which you can lift in cycles, the Swift group portfolio offers lightweight models,

Basecamp

Made to accommodate cycles, the three Basecamp models are specifically designed for outdoor-based holidays and breaks

BASECAMP 2

The original Basecamp, launched in 2016, was the two-berth layout that is now called Basecamp 2 to distinguish it from the other two models that have joined it as the Basecamp concept evolved.

Basecamp 2 has parallel seating that transforms into a double bed (1.98m by 1.83m). The seats fold upwards against the walls to create space for cycles; securing points are mounted in the floor. As you step inside through the door, at the rear, the kitchen is on your left. Opposite is the combined toilet/shower compartment and, alongside it, a wardrobe.

This is caravanning in miniature; all you need in a compact format that has an MTPLM of just 1,043kg.

Storage, Basecamp-style, is unique: overhead lockers are made of canvas and are removable, so that you can pack them at home and bring them into the caravan ready-packed.

BASECAMP 3

The latest Basecamp to join the lineup presents a surprise: a fixed double bed, in place of the lounge. Seating is provided by the dining area for two, on the nearside. The kitchen is alongside the combined toilet/shower room that is identical to the one in Basecamp 2. You might have expected the bed to convert to a lounge – but it doesn’t. It does, though, in keeping with Basecamp’s activity raison d’être, fold upwards, revealing securing points for cycles. The mattress folds in half, against the front wall. It’s innovative and, at the same time, simple in concept. And folding and pushing back the bed base is an easy and quick task, as we discovered when we compiled a review of this model for Caravan
