Ana Weed’s beloved pet dog turned out to be her downfall...

Ana Weed had a great life. Married to her husband Scott for 22 years, she was a doting mother and grandmother, and she adored her pet dogs.

Ana could often be spotted walking her miniature Schnauzer pooch, Maggie May, around the neighbourhood.

She was close to her tight-knit family, kind-hearted and always wanted to do the right thing.

A pillar of the community, she volunteered at church and taught Bible studies to the youth group.

The friendly 53-year-old got on well with most of her neighbours in the 3400 block of Mourning Drive in Spring, Texas.

But her tranquil home life in the quiet, leafy suburb was blighted by one of them.

Other neighbours described Hector Campos as ‘stand-offish’. He and Ana had lived next door to each other for 12 years.

And they were involved in a simmering dispute that had started back in June 2016.

Hector had arranged a trip to Mexico with his wife and young daughter, but then changed his mind and cancelled it.

But Ana drove Hector’s wife and baby to the airport anyway.

His wife had told Ana that Hector was abusive, and she wanted to help her escape.

Hector was furious though.

While Hector’s wife never reported him for any alleged abuse, the pair later ended up divorcing.

Hector held a grudge

One day, back in January 2017, Ana had lunch with her mother, Virginia Montalvo.

Virginia took out one of the pooches, while little Maggie stayed at home with Ana.

When Virginia came back, she noticed Hector in his garden. Meanwhile, Ana wrapped up a carefullychosen gift for her beloved her pups grandson’s birthday. Heading outside with her dogs, she still had a roll of tape in hand.

But Hector was still out in his yard cleaning his brother’s truck, and he approached Ana.

‘Where’s my daughter?’ he demanded angrily. An argument erupted. In the midst of the fight, Maggie got away and he ran towards Hector’s garden, barking. He started to kick at the little pup. Ana rushed after Maggie, and quickly squatted down to get her dog under control.

But as she did, Hector reached for his 9mm gun.

He then shot Ana point-blank in the chest.

Her husband Scott ran out when he heard the shot.

‘She was dying,’ he later said. ‘I couldn’t feel a pulse.’

Neighbours rushed straight to the scene.

One pulled his own gun on Hector to stop him taking more shots, and others filmed heartbroken Scott kneeling over his wife’s limp body.
