Have an honest and calm conversation with your partner – invite them to share their thoughts on marriage and the future of your relationship. Express your feelings about marriage and why it is important to you, and outline the emotional impact it has on you and the relationship.

Share your priorities, values and expectations with your partner – but also gain an understanding of theirs, to identify if you both are aligned with your long-term goals.

This will help you understand whether marriage is a non-negotiable for you or whether the relationship as it is will be enough.

A Firstly, let your daughter know that you are there for her. Offer a listening ear without judgement or criticism.

Motherhood can be a very overwhelming experience, any help with the baby or other practical tasks can alleviate some of the stress and low mood your daughter may be experiencing.

It is also essential for your daughter to seek professional help – encourage her, in a gentle way, to see her GP.

Recovery takes time, and progress may be slow. Be patient, understanding and avoid pressure or unrealistic expectations.
