Afaf Hussanen, 61, had alooming, gut feeling that she shouldn’t go home one fateful night…

Sociable, bubbly and hardworking – those are just a few lovely words one could use to describe Afaf Hussanen.

Originally born in Egypt, Afaf migrated with her family to start a new life in the USA.

And settling down in Las Vegas, Afaf carved out a busy and successful lifestyle for herself.

With two bachelor’s degrees under her belt from Suez Canal University, Afaf stopped at nothing to provide the best life for not only herself, but for her daughter, Hend Bustami, 28, too. Opening her own business named Great Bath and Body Shop in the late nineties, beauty seemed to be a passion she shared with her daughter, who went on to work at a local beauty salon.

Although the business shut two years later, Afaf continued to work hard to provide for her family, eventually becoming a sales consultant for over a decade.

In between her busy working schedule, Afaf shared snaps of her travels back to Egypt on Facebook.

And updating her status with a beaming new profile picture, her friends were always quick to comment on it. Miss you, wrote her long-time friend Maha Mash.

She was loved by everyone

I miss you girl, coming soon?

Afaf replied.

Despite the distance, Afaf never lost touch with her friends. She was loved by everyone she knew.

And posting selfies with Hend, it seemed that Afaf was a doting mother, always harbouring a close relationship with her daughter.

However, all was not so perfect behind closed doors.

As Hend grew older, the close relationship she once shared with her mum grew strained.

And taking to Facebook, Hend shared her troubles.

I haven’t had my phone in months, my parents are holding it till I get my own line, she wrote. Also hit me up, I’m in need of assistance. And a place to stay!

Despite being 28 years old, Hend hadn’t fled the nest yet or pinned down a stable job.

On Facebook, Hend even asked her friends if they knew of any local companies that were hiring.

Was the tension finally getting the better of their close relationship?

Heading out to a friend’s house on 25 October 2022, Afaf needed a well-needed catchup – especially as she’d been rowing with Hend lately.

Leaving Hend at their home on June Flower Drive in Las Vegas, Afaf leaned on the support of her friends.

Only, when Afaf returned home, her friends struggled to contact her.

Ringing Afaf’s mobile, there was no answer.

And at 2.30am on 26 October 2022, the local police received a disturbing 911 call from Afaf’s home address.
