3 ways to...

MAKE CASH FROM YOUR LOVE OF PETS

Being fond of a furry friend could be a nice little earner.

1 Seize the opportunity

Many people who have to be out of the house during the day, whether for work or other commitments, need help looking after their pets – and this could earn you some cash. For example, you could make around £10-£15 per hour when dog walking, and it’s great exercise too. Plus, you could also earn cash by offering drop-in visits, such as going to the owner’s home to feed and spend time with their cat. You may be able to net even more by looking after pets when people go on holiday.

For example, you could act as a house sitter and be paid to... to stay in someone’s home while they go away and give their pet some company, provide meals and walks.

2 Getting started

Websites like rover.com connect pet owners who are looking for someone to care for their pet with those who are wanting to do it. But before signing up to any website, always check the T&Cs, including fees, and read reviews. Or you could offer your services locally by putting up notices in local shops or posting on local Facebook groups.

3 Paws for thought

Do your research thoroughly so that you’ve considered everything you need to before you start. You’ll find lots of useful information in the Professional Dog Walkers’ Guidelines, available at rspca.org.uk. And whatever type of pet services you’d like to offer, ensure you have the right insurance in place – there’s a useful guide at comparethemarket.com.
