Is crashed aston mac’s?

Walker (left) and McVie with their cars. Right: the DB6 needs repair

Bass player John McVie became a rock legend as the co-founder of Fleetwood Mac – he is the ʻMacʼ in the bandʼs name. After success in the UK and across Europe in the early 1970s, the band members had the means to buy some exotic machinery. Vocalist Dave Walker got his hands on a Jensen FF, while McVie chose an Aston Martin DB6. They were later immortalised with their cars in a London mews.

When the band decided to try its luck in the USA in 1974, McVie took the Aston with him to Los Angeles. Walker later confirmed that the Jensen was also shipped over, but both cars were long thought to be lost until last September, when a DB6 turned up in an LA auction. Information was – and is – very limited, and the car hasnʼt yet been confirmed to be McVieʼs DB6, yet it still wore the bass playerʼs old carʼs British plate, MKX 140H.

The Aston was swiftly sold and appeared to be in a sorry state, with crash damage at the front and an engine bay that looked to have been untouched for decades. Itʼs mostly complete, though, and has to be well worth restoring. The last trace of the Jensen FF dates back to 1998, when it was advertised for sale in California in need of restoration.

From far left: DB6’s rock-star provenance is yet to be confirmed; interior is superficially shabby but not too bad; engine appears to be rather neglected
