OPENING NEW DOORS

Polish Porsche 911 custom parts producer Carbone has added a range of door cards to its selection of ‘OEM+’ upgrades for the original air-cooled model. Not only is there a wide variety of trim colours to choose from, but it will also fit a custom cloth or leather at extra cost. Most impressive, however, are extras such as map pockets and a phone pouch that hides a discreet wireless charger. Different versions are available to match the factory door layouts of the various models, as are specification differences such as right-hand/left-hand drive, power windows, speakers and so forth. They’re not cheap, with a basic vinyl-trimmed door card starting at €481.30, but the breadth of options is remarkable.

Repairing the cat’s haunches

No further proof that the Jaguar XK8 is becoming a true classic is needed beyond the fact that not only are its rear wheelarches now rusting, but also that repair panels are being made by Ex-Pressed Steel Panels. The components are a reasonable £103.32 each and will ease any repair to the modern classic coupéʼs bodywork. The firm promises a 10-day lead time.

Off-roader on the table

The Series One Land-Rover pick-up has joined Airfixʼs 1:43 Starter Set series, adding an extra classic option among the Supermarine Spitfires and Sherman tanks for beginner modellers. Priced at £14.99, itʼs an all-in-one kit including glue, a paintbrush and four paints, making it a perfect gift, but it is also a new mould of a vehicle not tackled by the company for many years, so should interest experienced hands, too.

Limited slips

If you were to make a slipper in the shape of a car, an easy-access convertible is the logical option. And why not the best-selling roadster of all time, the Mazda MX-5/Miata? Available in red or blue, these NA MX-5 slippers are made of a plush material for cosiness, but with a stiff sole to provide grip during hot laps of the kitchen. Theyʼre £44 and come in one size, to fit a UK 5-10½.
